Prescription calculator

At Agily, we understand the importance of finding the perfect pair of swimming goggles that provide crystal-clear vision while in the water. That's why we offer a simple way for our customers to calculate the diopter strength they need for their prescription swimming goggles. With this simple calculation, you can ensure that your goggles will provide the optimal vision correction for your eyes.

To calculate the diopter strength of swimming goggles, follow these steps:

Step 1: Determine Your Prescription

Before you can calculate the diopter strength, you need to know your prescription. If you already have a prescription for glasses or contact lenses, you can use that information. If not, we recommend visiting an optometrist to get an accurate prescription for your eyes.

Step 2: Convert Your Prescription to Diopters

Once you have your prescription, you need to convert it to diopters. Diopters measure the optical power of a lens and indicate the level of vision correction needed. To convert your prescription to diopters, simply add the spherical power of your prescription (often under a column 'Sphere' or 'Sph') with half of your 'Cylinder' measurement (often denoted as 'Cyl'). In other words, diopter strength = Sphere + (Cylinder / 2).

For example, if your prescription is -2.00 for 'Sphere' and -1.00 for 'Cylinder', the diopter strength would be -2.00 + (-1.00/2) = -2.50.

To make your life easier we provide you with a calculator that you can use to calculate your diopter strength and find the best swimming goggles for you

Sphere (Sph) Cylinder (Cyl)
Right eye (O.D.)
Left eye (O.S.)

Your right eye needs a diopter strength of ____ and your left eye needs a diopter strength of ____. We recommend choosing a pair of swimming goggles in the range ____ to ____.

Note: This measurement is only a suggestion. It is best to confirm your diopter
strength with your optometrist.

Step 3: Choose the Correct Swimming Goggles

If you have used the calculator provided above, you can simply follow the recommendation to find the best swimming goggles for you.

If you are doing the calculations manually, now that you have your diopter strength, you can choose the correct swimming goggles. Since water refracts light, it is recommended to round to the closest whole number (towards a weaker prescription) or even add 1.00 to your prescription. For example, if your calculated diopter strength is -2.50, you would choose the goggles with a diopter strength of -2.00.

Step 4: Enjoy Clear Vision in the Water

Once you have your prescription swimming goggles with the correct diopter strength, you can enjoy clear vision while swimming. Our AV1 Prescription Swimming Goggles are designed to provide personalized prescription lenses, enhanced UV protection, and advanced anti-fog technology. With these goggles, you can experience unmatched comfort and clarity in the water.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with calculating the diopter strength of your swimming goggles, please don't hesitate to contact our support team at support@agily.ch. We are here to help you make the right choice for your aquatic adventures.

What to do if the difference between my eyes is too large?

If the difference between your two eyes is too large (e.g one eye is -3 and the other is -6), picking a swimming goggle with -2 or -3 correction is not ideal. Unfortunately, at the moment we do not support per-eye customized prescription goggles but we are working hard to add that functionality to our website. We aspire to be able to cater to the needs of every single individual.

In the meantime, you can build your own customized swimming goggles by buying two pairs: e.g one with -2.0 correction and one with -5.0. You can simply swap one of the eye sockets of one pair with one from the second pair.
